Enkrya - It’s About Time
By Moira K. Wiley
|
Enkrya encompasses a trio of musicians, with Jake doing vocals and guitar, Alex on bass and Scott on drums, who moved from Minneapolis to Seattle to further their musical career. Now in Seattle, they continue to strive to move from the underground rock circuit to the mainstream with their debut album, It’s About Time. All 12 tracks are 49 ½ minutes of fairly mellow jams nonetheless sucking you into lyrics full of feeling and catchy melodies that you find yourself listening intently to from beginning to end. For example, “Small” is a mellow, heartfelt melody that sympathizes with those beaten down to the point of not being able to attain their dreams resulting in their existence of becoming small. “Imaginary Wings” is a harsh look at an imaginary love, and “Here’s To You” brings an interesting scream added to the main vocals to thoroughly drive home the feeling behind the story.
Then, to give you something a little different, track seven, “Without,” showcases their musical stylings sans lyrics. Track eight, “Don’t Be So,” brings the tempo up a notch to tell listeners to “Wake up!” while the soft background lyrics on track nine provides a chanting feel to the appropriately named “Ohm.” Overall, an interesting compilation that’s worth a listen, especially if you’re looking for something a little less hardcore to relax with. It’s About Time is now available for your listening pleasure.
